Going Ungracefully

I'll be the old lady in the tight, purple skirt

What was I thinking?

Really, I don’t know what fantasy world I was in when I was thinking about taking that itty-bitty bag with me on vacation. I did take the bigger one and felt it wasn’t big enough most of the time! I’m glad I didn’t take an even larger bag though, because I would have filled it up and walked around with a sore shoulder.

As it turns out, I took most of the vacation pictures and am therefore in very few. This is the only one I could find that even sort of shows me using the bigger bag. Can you see it there?

Our holiday in Boston was a lot of fun, as was our motorcycle trek through the White Mountains of New Hampshire, but it was insanely hot. They had some sort of very unusual heat wave, so our idea of going to New England to escape some of the Southern summer heat went horribly awry. All of my sweaters, long-sleeved shirts and jacket went almost entirely unused. I’ve never NOT been cold, it seems, so this was a huge shock! This picture was taken on the U.S.S. Constitution, and it was pretty breezy on the ship.

Our Foster Baby, Star

This beautiful 3-year-old Great Pyrenees has been our foster dog for about six weeks. I can’t believe how much she has perked up in that time. She’s really sweet and so loving. When we take her out with her sign, we can’t walk two feet – literally – without being mobbed. Lots of oohs and aahs but no real offers yet.

Back After a Long Absence + a WiW

I have not been able to post in some weeks and I may not be able to post regularly again just yet, but today I felt inspired.

Boy Toy, the kids and I went to the Renaissance Faire today. We had a lovely time – all of us! It was such a huge stress relief. Truly, I can’t tell you how good it was for all of us.

There was a great band performing – Mother Grove. I think they are from Indiana but they must travel to North Carolina with some frequency because they perform at some of our Irish pub places down here.

This picture was taken in the Tir na nOg tent:

The high temperature today was set to be around 67F (19.5C). I was worried I might be cold, because I am cold almost all the time (I have problems with severe anemia)! I ended up not wearing the jacket around at the faire, and I was miserably cold at first. After an hour of walking around in the direct sun though, I warmed up!

The denim jacket is the first I’ve owned since the mid-1980s, when I was a teenager. I think Angie said we all need a denim jacket, so I was on the hunt for one. I found this St. John’s Bay model at a Good Will for $6.99. I didn’t discover until I got home that it is actually a petite, but it seems to fit me ok. The silly little handbag was also a Good Will find. I like it because it is really kitschy and fun. I tucked the short handles inside to make it a proper cross-body bag.

My shoes are also really odd, though you can’t really tell from the picture. Let me take a quick pic of them:

Weirdest Shoes Ever

Weirdest Shoes Ever

They are dusty and have pollen all over them – sorry for that! But, yes, your big toe goes on one side and the rest of your toes go on the other, like flip-flops. But they are close-toed and have a small edge around the heel. I bought these a couple of years ago. They were the only pair on the shelf in a TJ Maxx. I have never seen them on another person and they definitely generate conversation every time I wear them!

All in all, today was the best day I’ve had in a long time.  I’m tired but happy. 🙂

WiW 02/27/10

02/27/10
Saturday:

Moving day! I definitely wasn’t going for any gold medals here. I needed layers so that I could peel them off as I was working and I needed things that would move and stretch with me.

Lawd, my feet are tired!

My entire life fits into half of a pull-behind trailer

Saturday night:

Our neighbor was having a birthday party at the local ale house that night, so I had to dig up something to wear. I knew everyone would be in jeans, and I fit right in with this outfit. I’ve worn it before so I didn’t have to think too hard about it – LOL!

Gah! More boxes!

Sunday

Happy Valentine’s Day to my Boy Toy!

He’d told me a month ago that he’d booked us for a special, limited seating wine tasting dinner at a mystery location. How fun is that? I didn’t know where we were going until we pulled into the parking lot. The dinner was at a locally well-known place called the Angus Barn, and this was a seating for 14 couples in the wine cellar. It was fabulous and the wine was just divine. My favorite wine of the evening was a 2007 Michael David Petite Petit. Second favorite was a 2007 Hugel Gewurztraminer. I guess 2007 was a good year all over the world!

He’s so good to me!

Lovers

Lovers

(P.S. we’re the same height, but I really fancy 4-inch heels. He never complains, bless his heart!)

I really, really struggled with what to wear. I’d committed to not buying a new outfit, as I have plenty of dressy stuff in my closet. I tried on all of my usual, super-sexy dresses but as I suspected, none were looking quite right. Curse the heavens for making me severely bloated and pre-menstrual on Valentine’s day!

I finally decided on these skirt-like pants along with a top that says “I HAVE BOOBS!”

The pants are from Cache and are sheer black pants topped with a front and back panel of the same sheer material on each leg. This gives it very flowy movement and the barest idea that if you look closely enough while I’m walking, you might see something. I love clothes that tease!

The addition of the jacket was truly last-minute. I had a filmy black wrap to wear, but just wasn’t happy with it. I tried on the jacket out of desperation (I was already at Boy Toy’s house with no time to go back to my place to rummage through the closet). I think it worked pretty well.

Shoes: Purple ruffled Madden Girl 4-inchers
Pants: Cache, black sheer multi-layered
Blouse: shiny, gold, animal print tackiness!
Jacket: Oh, you know which jacket this is
Jewelry: none. damn it to hell, I’d gotten dressed at Boy Toy’s house and left my jewelry at home
Lipstick : MAC Russian Red. As if anything else could have been appropriate?

North Carolina’s First YLF Rendezvous

The first North Carolina YLF meetup was a great success!

Rose and Jen

Rose and Jen

Rose is just delightful. She’s wicked smart and shares my obsession with potato chips.

We talked and talked, had a snack and a margarita to fortify us, and then embarked on a marathon shopping expedition at TJ Maxx.

It was so much fun to have a shopping buddy. We both came away with new items, though I have to admit that my receipt was a lot longer than Rose’s! Watch for a separate goodies post.

I look forward to doing it again, Rose!

Rose & Jen

Rose & Jen

As you can see, Rose is tall but just as petite and delicate as can be. I showed Boy Toy this photo and said, “I look like a big, stupid giant next to her!” He laughed at me.

Ok, so maybe “big, stupid giant” is a bit harsh, but there is certainly lots to admire about Rose!

Argh!

I’m very, very annoyed with myself. I posted zero pictures last week because I’d left my camera at Boy Toy’s house.  I dutifully brought it home on Sunday though. I planned out and tried on my outfits for the whole week, and I took lots and lots of pictures.

Then I discovered that I’d taken them all on the camera’s memory, not using the SD card. Ok, no problem, that just means I have to plug the camera into the computer to download the pictures instead of slipping the SD card into the handy-dandy slot.

Where is the cord? WHERE IS THE DAMN CORD??

Yah, it’s at Boy Toy’s house.

Gads I’m so pissed. Plus, I’m fasting for a couple of days and I’m ultra-irritable right now. It’s enough to make a girl break down and drive to the nearest Taco Bell.

WiW 01/02/10

My first WiW post for 2010! I wish I had something better to post!

I do have something nice first. I normally blur my face and I do that for a couple of reasons:

1. I don’t want to stress about my facial expression or whether I have my makeup on yet.

2. I feel a little weird about someone randomly finding one of my photos. I’ve made this blog non-searchable, so I imagine that the only people who will see it are folks from the YLF forums or another similar blog community.

With that, I have a little brag photo to share! This is a picture of my two gorgeous sons and I on Christmas this year. The one on the left is 20 years old and is a musician. The one on the right is my baby boy, who just turned 18. Until a week ago he had a mohawk. I guess he’s decided to go with a new look. I actually loved it when he had the mohawk dyed blue and up in its full glory, but it’s not very practical.

Chandler, Jenny and Forrest, Christmas 2009

Chandler, Jenny and Forrest, Christmas 2009

On to the WiW!

I don’t have much in the way of photos for the weekend because I spent most of it sick in bed! Today I felt well enough to get up and ride out to the propane fill station.

This is my ultra-hip outfit (snort) which no one saw because I was inside the vehicle with my coat on.

This isn’t exactly dressy, but I feel good in it because I think it shows off my best features.

By the way, I’ve had these jeggings for at least three years. When I bought them they weren’t mainstream fashion in the U.S. yet, I don’t think. These aren’t the best example of jeggings, but I’m glad I hadn’t thrown them in the Good Will bag!

WiW 01/02/10

WiW 01/02/10

Boots: Harley
Leggings: bought while I lived overseas from some little shop
Sweater: Probably Ross or TJ Maxx

I wore some big funky earrings and lavender leather gloves with my big, warm coat.

I asked Boy Toy what he thought of the boots with the outfit and he was afraid to tell me he didn’t like it. What he did say was, “Well, the boots REALLY stand out.”

I’m really not one of those women who gets upset about something like that. If I ask for an opinion I want an honest one. We may or may not agree, but that’s ok!

What I wondered about was the dark blue sweater with light blue leggings (trying the dark top/light bottom that someone suggested for me) plus black boots. Does it look wrong? Truth please!

What kind of accessories would go with this outfit?
